Principal’s Message

Por favor lea este mensaje en español aquí.

I believe in the power of joy.  If you know me at all, you know that I believe in having joy in the classroom, between teammates, and in our hearts at all times while serving our students.  Joy is something you must choose every day because our students deserve joy, our team deserves joy, and we deserve joy.

A joyful rebellion is you living differently not because you’re mad at how things are but because you are swelling with joy at the thought of how things could be.

– KID PRESIDENT

Eighteen years ago, I stepped onto the Aspire Capitol Heights Academy campus in Oak Park.  This was the first Aspire School in Sacramento, and I took many different roles while on campus and working for Aspire. The years have brought about opportunities and success for me as an educator & leader.  While at Aspire Capitol Heights Academy, I served as a classroom teacher, Director of Intervention, Dean of Instruction, and Principal. With Aspire, I had the opportunity to work as an Instructional Coach with the Central Valley Home Office and the Alder Teacher Residency Program during the 2016-2017 year, and for the last four years have been blessed to work at Aspire Benjamin Holt Academy High School as their Assistant Principal.  I will always be thankful for these opportunities and experiences that shaped who I am today.

I come to you excited and humbled to be named a part of this exceptional community as the new Interim Principal.  There’s a deep and proud history of learning and growth inside Alexander Twilight’s classrooms, and I commit to continue building this legacy for years to come.  Alexander Twilight Secondary Academy has worked hard to develop exceptional practices over the years in support of teachers, students, and families who change the lives of others and make the world a better place.  I am blessed to be able to call the Alexander Twilight Secondary Academy my new home.

I am looking forward to getting to know everyone as the days, weeks, and months pass, and I am confident that joy and commitment to community will guide us into another successful year together.

Be well,

Mercedes Maria Macumber
