Principal’s Message

Dear AMLA Families,

Welcome back to the 2019-2020 school year!! We hope you had a wonderful summer and are ready for another exciting year of learning and exploration.

For those of you who are new to AMLA I would like to start with a few brief introductions of myself, and the administrative team (deans) who will continue to support our students this year.  This year I will be entering my 7th year at Aspire after serving several Aspire Los Angeles schools in different capacities. I started off my career as a classroom teacher, then as a K-7 reading literacy specialist, instructional coach, content specialist, assistant principal at a middle school, and now entering my 1st year as principal. It has been a pleasure getting to work in the Huntington Park community and being a driver for change and advancement for your children.

This year we welcome back Mrs. Krystal Gonzalez (3-5) and Mrs. Dea Inguito (TK-2) who will continue to serve as a wonderful support around instruction and culture.  Together they have over 20 years of experience in the classroom, 18 at Aspire.  Our goals together this year are to elevate the instructional program as well as the culture of the school.

Below you will find a few goals for this academic school year:

  • Increase our attendance percentage
  • Continue to inspire a love of reading and overall joy factor at school
  • Elevate our PBIS (Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports) program with the support of our SEL (Social Emotional Learning) curriculum and Restorative Practices
  • Enhance the focus and support for our Multilingual Learners
  • Ensure that Science is more present in our daily academic program through strategic integration
  • Deepen the learning around our TK-5 Math curriculum
  • Expand our Music and Physical Education program
  • Expand the opportunities for our families to get involved

Looking forward to a tremendous year. Please feel welcome at any time to join us in any of our efforts. The more collaboration and integration of all stakeholders the better for our children.

Educationally Yours,
Mrs. Barnes
