Principal’s Message

Dear AMLA familia,

Welcome back to the 2017-2018 school year!! We hope you had a wonderful and restful summer and are ready for another exciting year of learning and exploration.

For those of you who are new to AMLA I will start with a few brief introductions of myself, and the new deans who will support our students this year.  This year I will be entering my 11th year at Aspire after serving several Aspire LA schools in different capacities. I started off my career as a classroom teacher, then as a K-5 reading literacy specialist, dean at a middle school, and now entering my 4th year as principal. It has been a pleasure getting to work in the Huntington Park community and being a driver for change and advancement for your children.

This year I am also happy to introduce Mrs. Krystal Gonzalez (3-5) and Mrs. Dea Inguito (K-2) who will be stepping out of the classroom to serve as our deans of instruction/culture. Together they have 20 years of experience in the classroom, 15 being at Aspire.  Our goals together this year are to elevate the instructional program as well as the culture of the school.

Below you will find a few goals for this academic school year:

  • Continue to inspire a love of reading
  • Elevate our PBIS (Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports) program with the support of a new SEL (Social Emotional Learning) curriculum which will be launched this Spring
  • Enhance the focus and support for our English Language Learners
  • Ensure that Science is more present in our daily academic program
  • Roll out a new and more rigorous K-5 Math curriculum
  • Expand our Music and Physical Education program

Looking forward to a tremendous year. Please feel welcome at any time to join us in any of our efforts. The more collaboration and integration of all stakeholders the better for our kids.

Educationally Yours,

Lily Garcia
