Rachel Hock

Dean of Instruction

Bio

Rachel Hock was born and raised in Sacramento and has deep roots in the community that ATSA serves. During her undergraduate program at the University of California at Santa Barbara, she began volunteering in science classrooms and discovered a passion for equitable education. She worked as a recruiter and activist for Teach for America while finishing her B.S. degree, and after graduation, she was accepted to the TFA teaching Corps.

Ms. Hock returned to Sacramento to teach sixth and seventh-grade science for St. HOPE Public Schools while earning her Master’s in Education. This experience only served to reinforce her love of teaching and learning and showed the need for Charter schools to offer more choices for families in Sacramento. When Ms. Hock met Robert Spencer, the founding principal of ATSA, she was inspired by the vision he had and chose to move to teach High School science at this wonderful new school.

Throughout her years at ATSA, Ms. Hock taught Biology, Environmental science, Chemistry, Computer Science, and sixth grade science. She also facilitated clubs and extracurriculars such as Dance Club and Adventure Club. It was a difficult decision for her to choose to leave the classroom to become a school Administrator, but the ability to have a broader impact on campus culture has been very rewarding for her. Ms. Hock is looking forward to the amazing growth and impact to arise in the next 15 years of ATSA.
