Greg Bybee

Social Entrepreneur, Founder of Avela & PoliScribe

Bio

Greg Bybee is a social entrepreneur, founder of Avela and PoliScribe, advisor to education changemakers, and advocate for public school choice.

Greg believes in the power of education to improve society and individual well-being, but that doing so requires a more modern, market-based approach to schooling that decouples a child’s socioeconomic status and zip code from their educational options.

To that end, he founded Avela, which offers a Nobel Prize-winning platform for families to navigate their children’s education and apply to schools and educational programs. Avela is free for parents and partners directly with cities, schools, districts, and other education providers. (Think “OpenTable for Education” meets “Common App for K12”). Greg is currently the CEO of Avela and has led its growth to over 1,000 schools and districts across the country.

He also founded PoliScribe, which offers generative AI software to governments to empower public servants to connect with their constituents and legislate more effectively. (Think “ChatGPT for Government.”) Greg is currently the Chairman and President of PoliScribe.

Greg is also an advisor to Reach Capital, Generation Citizen, Transcend Education, Constructive Dialogue Institute, Chalkbooks, Extern, Vendition, HiCounselor, BoldABC, and others, as well as enterprises and investors evaluating the education space.

Greg recently served seven years on the Board of Trustees for Leadership High School (LHS), where he oversaw the merger with Envision Education to become City Arts & Leadership Academy and a principal transition and executive search. He also supported their charter renewal, LCAP plan, WASC accreditation, strategic planning, governance, and fundraising. LHS was California’s rst start-up charter high school and offers a college-preparatory curriculum with a focus on leadership development and social justice.

Previously, Greg was a senior executive at NovoEd, an education software company that offers a cohort-based experiential learning platform. NovoEd was acquired by Fidelity in 2018 and continues to grow rapidly. He has also worked with NewSchools, Coursera, VMware, Microsoft, and McKinsey

Greg lives in San Francisco and has an MBA and MA-Ed from Stanford and a BA from Harvard. He is an avid cyclist, runner, traveler, and budding pickler.
