Bio

Chris began his career as a Science Teacher and Curriculum Developer for the Tiger Woods Learning Center (TWLC) in Anaheim. During his time at the TWLC, he developed programs to spark the interest of underrepresented groups and at-promise students in the STEM fields.  After several years working at the TWLC, he decided to take a position as a high school Biology teacher at Centennial High School in Compton.  At Centennial, he worked closely with counselors to help students gain access to higher education by facilitating college workshops and establishing college recruitment programs.  He was also a Lead Teacher responsible for establishing the school’s first Professional Learning Communities.

Over the last ten years, he has been honored to work in the resilient and culturally-rich community of Watts as a Biology teacher, Assistant Principal, and Principal at Alliance Cindy and Bill Simon Technology Academy High School.  As a School Leader at Simon Tech, Chris has engaged staff in workshops about microaggressions and racial consciousness, systematized restorative and trauma-informed practices, established equity-based Professional Learning Communities, implemented strong observation/feedback cycles, and created a school community of hope and healing. He also has experience successfully completing the technical components of school leadership, such as effective budget management, operational efficacy, and strategic completion of governance and compliance requirements.  These collaborative efforts have led Simon Tech to a 100% high school graduation rate for 6 consecutive years, an over 70% 4-year college acceptance rate, consecutive increases in student performances on CAASPP, a 0% suspension rate, and the creation of college access programs for first-generation college students.

He is also a faculty member at CSU-Dominguez Hills through the Charter and Autonomous School Leadership Academy, which prepares future school administrators to lead through social justice and equity lenses.  He holds a B.S. in Secondary-Education Biology (UW-Madison), M.A.Ed. in Advanced Topics-Focus on Critical Pedagogies, Urban Education (CSU-Long Beach), M.A.Ed. in Educational Leadership and Administrative Services Credential (CSU-Dominguez Hills), and a Doctorate in Educational Leadership (CSU-Long Beach).
