I have been blessed to serve Northern California’s East Bay for 21 years in the field of education. For fifteen of those years, I have served in the capacity of public school administrator in the culturally rich and diverse cities of Hayward and Oakland. I am currently the Principal of the Amazing Aspire College Academy of Oakland and plan to continue to lead the wonderful ACA Jaguars into the foreseeable future.
In my time as the ACA principal, I have seen so much growth in our students. I am excited to announce that ACA students demonstrated a lot of academic and socio-emotional growth during the 2023-24 school year and we look forward to reaching higher heights in 2024-25.
ACA made great gains in both English-Language Arts and Math on both our local iReady Assessments and on the national SBAC Assessment (otherwise known as CAASPP). Based upon the data, it is anticipated that ACA will be deemed by the state of California to have “Increased Significantly” its test scores – moving up two levels on the State of California’s Accountability Dashboard.
ACA Transitional Kindergarten and Kindergarten Program also made great strides in 2023-24. We are proud to announce that ACA’s TK/K program is one of the highest performing in all of East Oakland – with almost 85% of our little Jaguars performing at or above grade level in reading.
Aspire College Academy will continue to strive to be a pillar of strength in our community. We want excellence for our students and would like to provide as much support for our families as possible. We plan 1) to become the highest-performing public school in East Oakland, 2) to surround our students and families with the support necessary to be successful, and 3) to continue to build school spirit & pride in our community.
Prior to becoming the principal of ACA, I served as the Principal of Fairview Elementary School. At Fairview, I was able to galvanize the staff and provide stability, while guiding the community through the challenges of the pandemic and reopening of the school site. As a unified staff, we were able to establish a comprehensive 3-year strategic plan that provided clear guidance and direction regarding instructional foci, support services, and budget alignment with our school and district initiatives.
In my eight years as the principal of Southgate Elementary School, we developed a tradition of being one of the top schools in the district. Southgate vaulted to the #1 rated school in the district in both ELA and Math. In fact, since the onset of the California Assessment of Student Performance & Progress, Southgate grew 22% in ELA (38% to 60%) and 22% in Math (35% to 57%), earning Southgate recognition as a California Distinguished School in 2017 and 2019.
In 2016 & 2017, Southgate was honored by the publication Innovative Public Schools. Out of 1,251 schools in the Bay Area, Innovative Public Schools documented that only 47 schools met or exceeded the standards on the CAASPP for “underserved” students – Southgate was one of those schools. When taking a deeper dive into the data Southgate was rated the 6th highest-performing school for African American students. In 2018, Innovative Public Schools honored Southgate as one of only two schools that received “TOP SCHOOL” recognition for Hispanic American and African American students in both English Language Arts and Math.
