Adam Rand

Principal

Bio

After graduating from the University of Colorado, Boulder, I moved to Tokyo, Japan, where I spent three years teaching English. I knew after this experience that working in education was my future and I returned to California to earn my teaching credential. After teaching 6th grade in San Diego for 3 years, my wife and moved to Los Angeles where I was fortunate enough to join the team at Aspire as a 6th grade math/science teacher. During my time teaching at Aspire Junior Collegiate Academy (JCA), I also attended UCLA’s Principal Leadership Institute, where I earned my master’s degree and administrative credential. In 2011, Aspire opened three new schools in South Los Angeles and I was given the opportunity to lead one of the schools, Aspire Inskeep Academy. I served as principal for 4 years before transitioning into a role focused on instructional effectiveness. In January of 2016, my wife and I moved to the Bay Area where I served as Associate Director, of TK-12 Math for the Aspire Bay Area team, and am now excited to serve as Principal at Aspire Monarch Academy.

As this is my 15th year working for Aspire, there are clearly many things that I love about the organization. I am a mission-driven person and connect deeply to the goals of our schools. I am also continuously inspired by the people I work with; their commitment to young people, families, and the communities we have the honor of working in motivates me every day. Most importantly, I love our students. I love to see the social emotional and academic growth they make in our schools.

When not working, I enjoy spending time with my wife and five-year-old daughter. We love to travel, try new restaurants, go on family bike rides, and experience new places. While having a daughter has changed my perspective on many things, it has only strengthened my resolve to work towards creating more equity in our school systems and providing a rigorous and safe learning experience for all scholars, regardless of background or zip code.
