Bio

Born and raised in the small town of Livingston by my immigrant parents hoping to create a better life for myself and my 4 siblings, I soon realized the educational debt communities of color have and are continuing to accumulate resulting in the illusion of an  “American Dream.” I attended UC Berkeley where I realized Black, Indengious, and people of color are not given opportunities to successfully develop their skills academically and socially to succeed due to racial disparities. After questioning and learning the depth of the educational debt, I uncovered my purpose: to disrupt and dismantle the oppressive educational system through joy, justice, healing, and liberation.

I earned my Bachelor’s degree from the University of California, Berkeley, before attending Mills College Graduate Program, Oakland, to earn my Multiple Subject Credential with a focus on Social Justice Educational Reform. My own educational journey informs my teaching and leadership philosophy, acknowledging and actively challenging the oppressive educational systems and policies disproportionately impacting our Black/African American and LatinX communities through the power of authentic listening and partnerships with our staff, families/community, and scholars.

I proudly joined the Capitol Heights Academy family in 2018, following years of service in Stockton and Oakland Education. My Education career began in Oakland, educating and supporting scholars spanning from Kindergarten to 5th grade. Eventually, I joined the Aspire Organization in Stockton. In Stockton, I taught grades 2nd through 5th at Aspire APEX Academy before serving as Dean of Students, Assistant Principal as well as Interim Principal at Capitol Heights Academy. I am extremely honored and humbled to serve as your Principal at Capitol Heights Academy as we continue to build on our success as a school community with a vision to empower scholars to successfully graduate College and return to their communities to change the status quo.

The highlight of my days on campus includes spending time greeting families during arrival and dismissal, playing with scholars at recess, and coaching teachers/staff. During my free time, I enjoy cooking/baking, learning, being active, and spending time with friends and family.
