Adam Rand

Associate Director of College Ready Instruction

Bio

After graduating from the University of Colorado, Boulder, I moved to Tokyo, Japan, were I  spent three years teaching English. I knew after this experience that working in education was my future  and I returned to California to earn my teaching credential. After teaching 6th grade in San Diego for 3 years, my wife and moved to Los Angeles where I was fortunate enough to join the team at Aspire as a 6th grade math/science teacher. During my time teaching at Aspire Junior Collegiate Academy (JCA), I also attended UCLA’s Principal Leadership Institute, where I earned my master’s degree and administrative credential. In 2011, Aspire opened three new schools in South Los Angeles and I was given the opportunity to lead one of the schools, Aspire Inskeep Academy.I served as principal for 4 years before transitioning into a role focused on instructional effectiveness. In January of 2016, my wife and I moved to the Bay Area where I serve in my current role as Associate Director, TK-12 Math for the Aspire Bay Area team.

As this is my 10th year working for Aspire, there are clearly many things that I love about the organization. I am a mission driven person and connect deeply to the goals of our schools. I am also continuously inspired by the people I work with; their commitment to young people, families and the communities we have the honor of working in motivates me every day. Most importantly, I love our students. I love to see the social emotional and academic growth they make in our schools.

When not working, I enjoy spending time with my wife and two-year-old daughter. We love to travel, try new restaurants, go on family bike rides and experience new places. While having a daughter has changed my perspective on many things, it has only strengthened my resolve to work towards creating more equity in our school systems and providing a rigorous and safe learning experience for all scholars, regardless of background or zip code.
