16-17 State Test Results Are In

The school year is well underway, and so is our ambitious AspireForward strategic plan to usher us through to 2022.  For nearly twenty years, our vision has always been that  every  student is prepared to succeed in college, career, and life. That’s not changing, but what does require renewed attention is exactly how we get there – with ever-greater success for our students. As we approach our 20th anniversary, we’ve taken time to reflect on how we got to where we are now and how we can continue to improve. The AspireForward plan outlines our roadmap for the next five years as we grow to serve a total of 20,000 students, and we are already seeing early efforts come to fruition.

Each fall we eagerly anticipate the full release of our state test results and the comparison data to the entire state and subpopulations of students. For 2016-17 results (from testing days in the spring), growth across the state of California as a whole was flat (and actually dropped slightly for higher-income students). Aspire’s California students, on the other hand, grew 3 percentage points in ELA and 2 percentage points in Math on the SBAC exam. And in Memphis, our students’ proficiency scores on the MAP exam rose by 9% in ELA and 11% in Math, with our schools demonstrating the highest growth in MAP levels in the entire Achievement School District. We are proud of this promising progress and excited to continue closing the achievement gap for our students!
