Aspire Public Schools Discipline Policy
The Student Code of Conduct is intended as a set of guidelines to help us communicate about behavior and discipline more effectively. It was designed after extensive conversations with teachers, parents, students, and administrators. It is not designed to be a rulebook, but rather a set of guiding principles to help us ensure that students and teachers can learn in a safe and supportive environment where discipline is fair, equitable, and proportionate. The levels consists of the following:

  • Level 1: These behaviors are short-term acts that interfere with the orderly operations of the classroom, a school function, extracurricular/co-curricular program or approved transportation.
  • Level 2: These behaviors are moderate disruptive acts of misconduct that interfere with orderly operations in a classroom, a school function, extracurricular/co-curricular program or approved transportation or repeated acts from level 1.
  • Level 3: These behaviors are moderate to severe disruptive acts of misconduct that interfere with the orderly operations of the classroom, a school function, extracurricular/co-curricular program or approved transportation or repeated acts from level 2.
  • Level 4: These behavior are major acts of misconduct that interfere with the orderly operations of the classroom, a school function, extracurricular/co-curricular program or approved transportation or repeated acts from level 3.
  • Level 5: These behaviors are serious acts of misconduct. Any level 5 behaviors are grounds for a mandatory expulsion as mandated by Tennessee Code Annotated § 49-6-3401.

Principal’s Message

Dear Families and Friends:

Welcome to the Aspire Hanley Middle School, where we develop prepared, principled, and proactive citizens who will chase challenges, create change, and live inspiring lives.

As the demands and complexities of educating children increase, it becomes even more apparent that we need to work together to ensure that our children reach their full potential. All of us–the school and the community–must hold our students to the highest expectations, both academically and behaviorally, and then support them as they reach that bar. We believe that in an extended family environment–after all, it does take a village–the success of our students is certain, and that as we empower children with the creative, intellectual, and choice-making skills they will blossom academically, socially, physically, and emotionally.

With that in mind, you are invited to be an active participant at Aspire Hanley Middle School. Whether you’re a member of our Aspire Hanley Middle School Parent Association, a classroom mother or father, or supporter of our burgeoning sports program, you are encouraged to be an involved member of our community. Research on schools clearly demonstrates that parent participation in their child’s school coincides with greater likelihood of academic success for their child.

It is our desire to keep you informed of all that is taking place at our school. Up-to-date and additional information will be sent to you through our parent communication app, ParentSquare, but we want our school’s web page to be your source of information on all the happenings of Aspire Hanley Middle School.

If you have questions or concerns that arise at any time, please do not hesitate to give your child’s teacher or me a call. I look forward to having a long and rewarding relationship with you and your family as we fulfill our mission of college for certain for our students in Orange Mound.

All the best,

Steven Ward
Principal
